Award-Winning live art group Other Spaces first time in Spain!

Other Spaces is one of the most influential and international live art groups in Finland. Come and join collective fun exercises to visit non-human forms of existence. The themes for exercises arrive from the nature, animals, plants, physical phenomena and even non-living entities. The experience changes our way of experiencing our self, the others and the environment.

It temporally liberates us from our human form. Previous experience is not required. The most important aspect of Other Spaces exercises is to enjoy!

The teacher of this workshop, Minja Mertanen, has been teaching dance over 20 years. She has graduated as a dance teacher and a dance- and movement therapist. She has been working actively in the field of live art in Finland and performing in numerous festivals around the world.

ABOUT OTHER SPACES

The Other Spaces collective is a live art group based in Helsinki, Finland, with about 20 active members from different fields of art. During its working history the collective has become one of the most influential and international live art groups in Finland. The performance aesthetics and working methods of the collective are unique: the group’s artistic work is based on collective body exercises that enable an experiential contact with non-human forms and phenomena. The collective shares these exercises with the public in performances, workshops and demonstrations, thereby encouraging everyone to experience these “visits into other spaces”. The collective’s goals include facilitating more sustainable and collective ways of thinking and behaving, aided by the techniques that the collective has developed. The collective encourages cooperation between different forms of art and strives for truly democratic and collaborative ways of working.

Other Spaces is internationally well regarded and has been invited to numerous festivals, including: Urban Species at Kampnagel, Hamburg, Edinburgh Science Festival, Brighton Fringe Festival, AUAWIRLEBEN at Bern, ANTI festival at Kuopio, Il Giardino delle Esperidi festival at Campsirago, the Santarcangelo festival at Sant Arcangelo, the Access Point festival at St. Petersburg and the Venice Biennale.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Other Spaces has created over 100 different exercises throughout its 15 years of existence. For the workshop at Project Ibiza we have gathered some of the most loved exercises. The themes of exercises arrive from the elements of nature, physical phenomenons, animals, plants and even nonliving entities. The exercises change our way of relating to ourself, to the others and to our environment. Other Spaces workshops are suitable for everyone, regardless of age, shape or physical condition. Previous experience is not required. The workshops’ content and intensity can be adjusted according to the participants, and the pedagogical content can be adapted to fit the participants’ background. Other Spaces exercises give interesting point of view to everyone. For the people who are not so used to move it gives pleasurable ways of relating to movement without competition or judgement. For professional performers it gives new ideas to approach movement and being on stage. For butoh practitioners it gives new ways to relate to metamorphoses without aesthetics that might become hindering. The most important aspect of the Other Spaces exercises is to enjoy! If you have any questions or doubts, please don’t hesitate to contact the teacher Minja Mertanen!
